WHY IT MATTERS

November is diabetes month. Type 1 diabetes, often referred to as juvenile diabetes, accounts for at least 85% of all diabetes cases in youth under 20 years of age worldwide.  About 85% of people newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes do not have a family history of the disease. While being overweight and obese are significant risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes, they are not the only factors. Youth of all body types can develop diabetes, which is why prevention, healthy habits, awareness, and appropriate screening matter for everyone.

EVERY youth, EVERY family, EVERY body type.  Know the risk.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) was founded in 1970 by a group of parents of children living with type 1 diabetes. The founding members formed the organization with the intent to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications by advocating for research.  JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) historically has a strong focus on academic-based research, with more than 85% of its current funding committed to it.  On June 4, 2024, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) adopted Breakthrough T1D as its new name.

Join BASYC Inc. in building healthier communities and making a difference...one youth, one family, and one community at a time!
